So you've booked your Senior Casual session, now it's time to work on your wardrobe. I've put together some tips to help you choose the best outfits and accessories to make you SHINE in every image.
Check your own closet FIRST! Before you head out with your credit card in hand, look through your own closet and take an inventory of what you already own! If you are like my two daughters, you probably have things buried in there that haven't seen the light of day in months. What better way to showcase your style than what you already have. Pair your favorite pair of jeans with a t shirt, add some accessories and you have your first look. Senior Casuals are designed to showcase YOU! Who You are at this time of your life.
Solid colors always photograph well and you can never go wrong with neutral color palettes as well as jewel tones such as navy, gold and deep reds. Choose solid colors and add accessories such as hats and scarves. Hats, scarves and jackets are a great ways to add texture and layers to your outfit. I do recommend you avoid Neon since it can lead to unflattering color casts.
I recommend 2-3 outfits for Simple Sessions and up to 4 for Deluxe sessions. Make sure your outfits are ironed and all lint is removed with a lint brush. Nothing ruins a great image more than wrinkled clothes.
Make sure your clothes fit well and you feel comfortable in them. I recommend form fitting dresses and tops that have some shape to them. Oversize and boxy tops and dresses will photograph the same way, making you look larger than you are. Comfort is key! Avoid skirts, shorts, rompers and dresses that are too short. You won't relax and be comfortable if you're worried the whole time about revealing too much. We will be doing a variety of poses including sitting, walking and squatting so be very conscious of the length of your outfits.
Don't forget your shoes. Make sure that they complement your outfit choices and that you can walk comfortably in them. Also make sure that they are clean and not too worn.
Trendy clothes are prefect for your Senior Casuals but try to avoid ultra trendy clothing. If it's something you would NEVER normally wear, I would recommend you leave it at the store. Your outfit choice should reflect you, not the latest fashion magazine trend.
I highly recommend a dressy outfit for your Senior Casuals. Dresses and rompers are a perfect way to show movement in your images.
Don't forget the accessories! This is where you can really have fun. Of course there are the obvious accessories such as earrings, necklaces and bracelets but think about adding your favorite sunglasses or a fun hat. Props such as hats and scarves can be used to frame the face in images and look great in closeups. Jackets and cardigans can easily be added or removed to change up your look. When deciding on jewelry, choose classic, thin chained necklaces and simple earrings. Trendy or chunky jewelry tends to draw attention away from your face so use sparingly.
Don't forget your undergarments. Nude undergarments are best. Try on each outfit before your session to make sure straps and lines aren't visible or worrisome.
Make sure nails are freshly polished and clean. I recommend a light color polish that goes well with each outfit.
The key is HAVE FUN! This is your chance to shine!
